34. BLACKSTART GENERATORS
34.1 General
Upon complete loss of the power system (blackout), it will be necessary to establish
initial generation and begin system restoration at select powerplants. Initiating (main
unit) generators are referred to as system blackstart generators and are designated as
such in system blackstart restoration plans. They must be able to self-start without
any source of off-site electrical power and maintain adequate voltage and frequency
while energizing isolated transmission facilities and auxiliary loads of other
generators.
